Amaranth is a 16-hour grain crop available to farmers at level 76 or higher. It began its life on FarmVille as an un-masterable, limited edition seed released as part of the Southwestern Event in May 2010 to farmers of level 6 and above. At that time, it had a much greater profitability than it currently enjoys as a permanent crop.

As of Jan 2013, it is used to craft animal feed. It does, however, enjoy one of the highest mastery bonuses available in FarmVille, with a 5% chance to receive 8 XP upon the harvest of a single plot of fully mastered amaranth.
