Swiss Alps Event-icon

The subject of this article or section is part of the Swiss Alps Event, an Event that lasted from from June 30th, 2010 to July 22nd, 2010. Once the event has run its course, this will no longer be available.

Triticale was a grain seed released on July 15th, 2010 —and plantable until August 12th, 2010 — as part of the Swiss Alps Event. It was the first limited edition Heirloom Crop, a seed of which requires mastery of another crop before it can be planted. Indeed, it was the first crop of any kind to require mastery of two crops prior to player access. Rye and Wheat needed to be mastered before triticale was unlocked.

Mastery Edit

Triticale was one of the rare limited edition crops to also be masterable itself. Though bushel and market stall images were found on the official Zynga servers, several user reports indicated that it did not, in fact, produce bushels. This meant that mastery took twice as long as standard, permanent crops. However, it offered the unusually high mastery bonus of 6, once crop mastery was achieved. With such a high mastery bonus, and relatively short maturation cycle, it offered the potential — though not, strictly, the guarantee — of being a good crop with which to level quickly.

Trivia Edit

Like Rappi, another limited edition "Swiss" crop, it was one that, in real life, had very little to do with Switzerland, which was not even in the top 10 global producers in the early 21st century. It was, however, reasonable for Zynga to require mastery of both Rye and Wheat, as Triticale is a genetic cross between the two grains.

Star Trek fans may recognize the name of the crop as the base of the name of the fictional quadrotriticale and quintotriticale, featured in the episodes "The Trouble with Tribbles", "More Tribbles, More Troubles" and "Trials and Tribble-ations".

FarmVille Crop Mastery Trivia: Triticale is a hybrid of wheat (Triticum) and rye (Secale) first bred in laboratories during the late 19th century.
